- Foreningen har til oppgave å utdype den gjensidige interesse og forståelse mellom Norge og India, og skal arbeide for å utvide kjennskap til indisk kultur og samfunnsforhold blant nordmenn. Foreningen er politisk og religiøst uavhengig, og skal arbeide for gjensidig orientering på et allsidig grunnlag. Til fremme av sin oppgave skal foreningen arrangere møter, konserter, utstillinger og lignende, og generelt bidra til informasjon om indiske forhold i Norge. Den skal også bidra til personlige kontakter mellom indere og nordmenn i Norge og India, samt veiledning ved guiding og konsultasjonsvirksomhet.
